WHAT SHOULD I PUT IN MY HOSPITAL BAG?

The Jane Crookall Maternity Unit, affectionately known as "The Jane," provides many essentials for both you and your baby during your stay, including pads, disposable knickers, reusable nappies, baby clothes for your baby to wear while in the hospital, and formula. You’ll often receive a beautifully hand-knitted hat to keep your little one warm as well.

However, some items we suggest including in your hospital bag are:

FOR MAMA

  • Your birth plan (if desired)

  • A comfy nightie or pyjamas (with buttons down the front if planning to breastfeed)

  • Disposable knickers

  • Absorbent sanitary towels

  • Comfy granny knickers

  • Breast pads and a nursing bra (if needed)

  • Any medication you’re currently taking

  • Comfy clothing

  • Water bottle

  • Fan

  • Snacks

  • Phone charger

  • Towel

  • Wash bag

  • Glasses or contact lenses (if needed)

  • A going-home outfit

  • Your own pillow (if desired)

FOR BABY

  • Wipes

  • Nappy to go home in

  • Going home outfit

  • Blanket

  • First photo prop (if desired)

You’ll also want to pack anything you plan to use during labour, such as a TENS machine or essential oils.

Please note that birth partners and visitors are not provided with meals at The Jane, so bring some snacks for them too!
